PMB

These instructions will help you load the full version of PMB on your PC (not a Mac). I don't know how the Click & Sew software loads, but it's probably similar. Before you start, print this page, then close your browser and any other programs that you have running. Some of these steps take some time, so now you have been forewarned!

If you are loading your software for the first time, skip the rest of this paragraph. If you are installing an update, download the file now into the directory C:\ProgramFiles, write down the file name, then continue.

If you have a problem with this, please let me know.

This step takes time:

If you have anti-virus software and you run it at least once a week, skip this step. Otherwise, run it now against your (C:) drive. If you also have a (D:) drive that is not a CD drive, run against that, also.

To prepare to install your PMB software, you should clean up your hard drive. First, select Start > Programs > Windows Explorer. If the (C:) drive has a plus sign in the square to its left, click the plus sign once to expand it. Then expand Windows and click on Temporary Internet Files. Click once on one of the names in the column called Names. Do a <Ctrl><A> which means to hold down the "Ctrl" key, hit the "A" key once, then release both keys. If you are asked if you want to delete cookies, hit the "N" key or click the "No" box once. Now close this window.

If you like to keep files in the Recycle Bin, this is the time to save them. Right-click the Recycle Bin and select Open. Right-click each file you want to keep and select Restore. Leave alone the items that you don't mind losing.

Now select Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup. Click on the box for (C:) drive. Click once on each box that is not checked so that all the boxes are checked. Click once on the OK box (and you may need to click it once again). If you also have a (D:) drive that is not a CD drive, clean up that drive as well.

Now reboot your computer, then close all the TSRs (the term "TSR" means Terminate and Stay Resident, which means they are running all the time). These are evident by small icons next to your PC clock, at the lower right of the screen. Right-click on one and select Exit, Quit, Pause, Close, or Disable. Any other programs which are running (as evidenced by blocks in the task bar to the left of the icons near the clock) must also be closed.

This step takes time:

If you regularly defragment your hard drive (about once a month), skip this step. If you don't have Windows98, skip this step unless you know otherwise (because that's what I have and I don't know or remember how anything else works). Select Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter and select Drive C. If you like, you may show details so you can watch the little blocks move around. Otherwise, go to bed and I'll see ya in the morning! If you also have a (D:) drive that is not a CD drive, you can "defrag" that drive also.

Reboot your computer again and close all TSRs and any other running programs.

Installing the software upgrade

If this is your first install of PMB software or you are starting over, skip this step. If you downloaded an update, select Start > Run, and select Browse. Select the (C:) drive, double-click Program Files, and double-click the name of the downloaded file. Now click the OK button, and the software will start to load.

Installing the software:

If this is not your first install of PMB and you already have PMB loaded, skip this step. If you have a (D:) drive that is not a CD drive, find which disk drive has more space available, and load the software there. Using Windows Explorer or My Computer, right-click each drive and select properties to see how much free space is available. You will want to load the software into a directory called C:\Program Files\Boutique or D:\Program Files\Boutique.

If this is not your first install of PMB and you already have PMB loaded, skip this step. Put the software CD in the CD drive. If the installation doesn't start on its own, select Start > Run > Browse and select the CD drive, then select the file called "Setup.exe". Make sure it loads into the correct directory. It will put a pincushion icon on your desktop.

After Installing:

You must reboot your computer after the installation of the software / upgrade is finished. The pincushion icon is now on your desktop, which means that you can double-click the pincushion to start your PMB software.
